Estro Jen is so rad, I wanna start doing ramp skating aswell as le derby. Probs couldn’t use my R3s for that though cos they are nylon plates and I imagine that’d probably end badly haha, I dunno.

Love Estro :)

genevievedavis:

I just transferred over to the LA Derby Dolls & was very excited to be able to shoot this last game as my bout duty. I’ve never shot sports before, & let me tell you I have a whole new respect for sports photographers. This is not easy! Practice makes perfect, in the mean time here are some of my favorite images from the game:

How to use your DIY bearing cleaner step by step Part 2

So you now have a b-e-a-utiful uber cheap bearing cleaner, now all you need to know is how to frickin use it!!haha but don’t fret it is easy as pie

What you’ll need
A citrus based cleaner/degreaser that contains limonene (check your kitchen cleaner)
Sewing needle (a pin or opened up paperclip work just as well)
Hair dryer
Lubricant - I used clipper oil (I’m a dog groomer and have lots!) it works great on smaller mechanical things, raid any mens shaving kit for some. Or use bearing lube haha

Step 1
Remove the seals of your bearings (it may sound scary but it really isn’t so relax)
Place the tip of the needle at the inner rim of the seal push it between the seal and the bearing and lever it out.
If it’s a bit sticky move the needle along and repeat.
Step 2
Wash them dirty seals, mix some warm water and a bit of your cleaner/degreaser in a tub or mug and shake them about a bit.
Rinse them thoroughly in warm running water.
Dry them on a towel/kitchen roll THOROUGHLY.
Step 3
Fill your bottle about a third full of cleaner/degreaser
Step 4
Thread a spacer (cut felt tip pen tube) onto the rod, then a bearing.
Repeat until you have 8 spacers and 8 bearings on the rod.
Screw the nut on the bottom of the rod to keep them all on.
Step 5
Place the rodded lid onto the bottle and screw it closed really tight.
Step 6
Shake it!!! (great fun)
Let it sit for a few minutes.
Repeat.
Don’t leave them in the cleaner/degreaser for longer than is instructed on the bottle.
Step 7
Unscrew the lid and run it all under clean warm water thoroughly (yes bearings and all!)
Step 8
Remove the bearings from the rod and place onto a towel(kitchen roll will do)
Step 9
Plug in your hair dryer and dry the hell out of them!
You want them stone dry, flip them over and dry each side.
Caution they will get hot so take care when rotating them
Step 10
Side note: if you spin your bearing at this point you will hear a hissing noise, it may sound cool but that is actually an indicator that they are dry (aka not lubricated in any way)
Oiling/lubricating your bearings.
Take some of your prefered lube and put it into a small container (I used an egg cup, a bottle lid would do)
Use the needle from earlier and dip it into the lube.
Place a single drop of it each onto 3 or 4 of the teeny ball bearings.
Repeat this for each bearing.
Step 11
Replace the rubber seals.
Simply allign them and push them in lightly with your thumb, you should hear a click.
Repeat the whole process again with your other 8 bearings

Now you should have some lovely shiny brand new looking bearings that run beautifly smoothly (no hiss when they spin!)
I can’t believe how well this simple bearing cleaner works, it’s really straight forward to make/use and you can reuse it as much as you want! Hope you’ve all enjoyed and found this useful :)

Client requested to do a Fresh Doodle version of a roller derby team Houston Brawlers logo. Had a lot of fun doing this and it definitely gives my portfolio a wider range of subjects. =)
